Who’s Hot, Who’s not. A Review of SE Idaho broadband Providers.

Technical Support

CableOne
Website: http://help.cableone.net/
Phone: 1-877-692-2253
Hours: 24 hours, seven days a week technical support

I was ecstatic to find that CableOne provides 24 hour a day, 7 day a week phone support. It is very rare that we even hear of CableOne going down or needing any major technical support, but it is always good to know that there will be some there to yell at when it does! (Just kidding, please don’t yell at the animals.)
CableOne has a very complete technical support site. You can find information on how to use most modern web browsers, email clients, basic network information and setup, and information on the cable modem and a bit of diagnostic. There’s a LOT more which you can evaluate if you ever get an account.

Qwest
Website: http://www.qwest.com/dslhelp/
Phone: 1-888-777-9569
Hours: 24 hours, seven days a week technical support

Qwest is also sporting 24 hour a day, 7 day a week phone support. This is a good thing as Qwest is notorious for having extremely difficult bills to understand. Qwest also is quite dependable as far as uptime goes, but again, it’s nice to know they’re there if you need ‘em.
I’ve always been impressed by Qwest’s website. There is a megalithic amount of information on their website. Just… megalithic. It is a bit overwhelming at first, but once you use it a bit… well, it’s still overwhelming, but at least you’ve found where a few things are at.

MicroServ
Website: http://home.ida.net/index.cfm?cat_id=35&fuseaction=categories
Phone: 1-208-528-6161
Hours: 8am to 9pm weekdays, and from 9am to 4pm Saturday

Microserv has decent hours as far as their phone support goes. They do leave a bit to be desired, but it could be worse.
Their website isn’t the prettiest we’ve come across, but it has a fair amount of information. They could definitely improve on both. Microserv has never really had any major downtime problems, and they’ve always seemed pretty stable so it doesn’t seem that they NEED more support, but like we stated earlier, it’s ALWAYS nice to know it’s there.

Teton Wireless
Website: http://www.tetonwireless.com/Support%20Center.htm
Phone: 1-208-529-8895
Hours: 9am to 5pm weekdays, no weekends.

When the big geek in the sky was handing out tech support, Teton Wireless must have been busy defraggin’ their hard drive. Remember earlier when I said it could be worse? Yea, well, here it is. If your Internet OR television goes out after their office hours, you may as well go rent a movie, shut down that chat room, and quit waiting for that stock ticker to update, you’re done for the night unless they happen to find the problem and fix it on their own.
Luckily they are also pretty stable and it’s not normally an issue, but if it arises, pray it happens during business hours. The other major problem is their website. It could use some… well… more website. Information is lacking nearly to the point of nonexistence. Come on guys, at least try. This is the main area I would like Teton Wireless improve, it would really add to their mostly great service. They are suppose to have someone on call after business hours and on the weekends, but from my experience, no one has ever answered the phone, returned my messages, or gotten back with me, unless I called during business hours.

I like your website, it has eye appeal and easy to navigate.

I noticed you do not list Fairpoint as local broadband connection.

Thanks, Gene. We have worked quite hard to find a design that is (hopefully) easy for all to use and navigate. :)

We did not list Fairpoint for a couple of reasons.

    1) Their web site(s) had little to no information, especially when it comes to their technical support. This article relied heavily on the information made publicly available, which, fairpoint made either very obscure, or non-existent.

    2) There isn’t really any one “fairpoint”. They operate mainly through third party retailers, whom, as luck would have it, are mostly our competition. I just don’t feel comfortable sending our traffic to our competition, for any reason. :)

Thanks for posting though, hopefully we’ll be able to keep some content here for the local area that people will be interested in. If you have any ideas, please feel free!
